The road to Roller Derby!!!

If you don't know, this week I decided that I was on a mission to join a roller derby team.  Yesterday I started maxing out my lifts to see how heavy I can squat and press.  My max squat today was 207.5 lbs, which means that I can squat more than I weigh!  My press I maxed at 95 lbs, deadlift 235lbs, and bench 115lbs.  Hopefully I can continue to increase my lifts which will increase my hitting power when I'm on my skates!  I am looking for a set of skates so if you know anyone that wants to sell theirs let me know or if you want to donate to the Amber does Roller Derby fund that would be great too!

Me and my Bright Ideas!!!!

This week I watched an awesome movie, Whip It.  It was about roller derby and was super fun.  (Just so you know it did have some cursing and girls in short skirts in case you decide to watch it.)  Back to me and my bright ideas, I decided that I want to be a roller derby girl....I spent all night thinking of a name.  I am hesitant to post it here because I'm afraid someone will steal my awesome name but my new name is *drumroll please*  Drew Bruisehermore!!!!  I also decided that I needed to start training so I stopped by Roll About on my way home for work, forked out my $5.50 and put on my skates.  I did discover that Roll About is probably the best place to start training because I spent the entire time dodging little kids and I also got to do the Wipeout song (the dj says wipeout and we all fall).  The first wipeout hurt so I just watched how the kids fell and did it like them after that and it was much better.  Geez, I sound old! When I left I still had about 45 minutes before they closed but I just couldn't handle the pain I had going on in my skate.  I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home.  I know that this picture might turn some peoples (Rachel) stomachs but I wanted to be sure that you knew I was telling the truth and not over exaggerating the size of my blister!  Lets just say it really really hurts!  Can I call into work due to not being able to walk.....because I went skating for an hour??????

Faiths Bamatoes

I had a great day painting last week and Faith's Bamatoes was some of the awesomeness that came out of that day.  The tomatoes came straight from our backyard to my easel!  It was so much fun to not only eat them but paint them.  Now I have documentation of our very first tomatoes!

Blah Tent Problem Solved!

I participated in 2nd Saturdays yesterday at the Duke Homestead Tobacco Museum in Durham.  The night before I painted a drop cloth that I purchased at Lowes.  I do have to say that I God blessed me because a couple of days before, my mom had attempted to paint her kitchen red.  That red turned out to be a gorgeous pink!  She of course was upset but I had the perfect use for her paint!   It turns out that the pink matched my booth tablecloth!  I painted some dandelions on it and voila!  So if your looking for a way to spice up your booth maybe you should consider something like mine!  For those of you interested, a question that I get a lot at these fairs is, What did I make my weights to hold the tent down with?  I filled ziploc bags with sand and I bought matching napkins that go with my tablecloth and wrapped them around the sandbags.  Pretty simple and they are just pretty!
